Our history

Vélsmiðjan Sveinn ehf. was founded in 1993 by Haraldur Lúðvíksson and his son Haraldur V. Haraldsson; the name Sveinn comes from the father of Haraldur Lúðvíksson. The workshop is situated in Flugumýri in Mosfellsbær, at the base of Úlfarsfell, about 10 minutes from Reykjavík. In 1993 the workshop was about 112 m²; two years later, in 1995, it expanded by a further 107 m², making it possible to split it into a turning & milling division and a steel construction division. In 2003 it was enlarged by another 90 m² to add a mechanical repair division and a forging room for steel hardening. That same year the founder, Haraldur Lúðvíksson, passed away. Today Vélsmiðjan Sveinn occupies a total of about 380 m². Vélsmiðjan Sveinn was later combined with the company Virgin ehf.

Equipment and facilities

The workshop has three turning machines, a milling machine, a grinding machine, a CNC turning machine and bending machines. In 2003 a mechanical repair division and a special steel hardening room were added.
